- Editor's Notes
- "The following is a translation of a letter dated Aug. 7 received from the Swiss Co.:" ##[quoted from the letter:] We take the liberty of bringing to your attention that Mr. J. Burns was in Geneva on Aug. 11 and 12 and offered, in the name of the French Edison Co., Edison lamps at a price of 3 francs 50 centimes per lamp, to various mills in this city. ##We are almost certain he has made offers to our customers in Switzerland. ##We ask your attention to this in order to prove to you that the Edison Co. in Paris does not respect the privileges which were accorded to us by TAE. ##The same is true for the other appliances used in the Edison system. We beg of you to bring this matter before TAE and send to you our most sincere regards. ##[back to Upton writing]: You should write to Paris and state to them that they have no right to do business in Switzerland. My impression is that they are expressly forbidden by their contract to do business in Switzerland. I promised the Swiss Co. that I would bring the matter to your attention and that you would probably write to Paris. ##The Swiss Co. are among our best customers and we are desirous of keeping their goodwill.
