- Title
- [D8546ZBM], Letter from Alfred Ord Tate to Thomas Alva Edison, October 22nd, 1885
- Editor's Notes
- [LETTERHEAD: Rossin House, Toronto] Will cut the line at Port Hope and ground it there to test phonoplex over 63 miles of wire; will advise of the result; as telegraphed yesterday, disconnecting the lines run from same battery as #8 made no improvement in regard to induction; pending instruction from TAE and if the shortening of the line works, will test each office to see how far line works before induction prevents; notes that Black and Rosebrugh "two or three years ago procured patents on a device for using telegraph wires for the requirements of telephony;" Tate provides schematic drawing of their method and discusses their treatment of induction problem.
