Title
[D8603C], Letter from Josiah Custer Reiff to Thomas Alva Edison, January 7th, 1886
Editor's Notes
I have a copy of Frank Pope's paper "The Electrician and Electrical Engineer" of January 1886. ##He says Dr. Nicholson was the inventor of the Quad and that a Patent, #332550, Dec[?] 15, 1885 was issued and assigned to the Western Union[?] Telephone Co., that this cuts you out, etc. I see Nicholson's patent is based on an application of May 11, 1876. ##There must be some fraud about this. This old case has possibly been worked up because B & O Tel Co. beat W U on the steam condenser. ##Did you know anything of this issue to Nicholson? Serrell told me long ago he would advise me if the interference was about [to be] decided, so I could intervene and be a party. Please look over the paper [----] 1 and pages 33/34 and let me know what you think about it. Did you [---] anything that looked like a surrender[?] of your position[?] on inventions[?]?
