- Title
- [D8603ZCG], Letter from Edward P Thompson to Thomas Alva Edison, October 18th, 1886
- Editor's Notes
- Enclosed please find the article (please return) on the principles and science of invention and forming the subject matter of a correspondence between us several months ago. My object is an attempt to set forth invention as a science. To test its efficiency, an inventor, such as yourself, may note whether or not inventions old and new present themselves to the mind when reading the articles. I intend to revise the whole article and enlarge it for publication in the form of a pamphlet which will probably contain my advertisement at the end, and thereby be offered free or very cheap, and for the present, as a means of introduction to the public, I would feel under great obligations to receive a testimonial of its merits from you, should you feel so disposed. I know of no one than you whose remarks would be more appropriate to a matter of this nature.
