Title
[D8611G], Letter from William B Ellison, Canadian Club to Thomas Alva Edison, June 2nd, 1886
Editor's Notes
[Relatively long letter; this is abbreviated.] I write you regarding the Canadian Club. The club this year, due to its removal to its new house, has been compelled to incur a debt and higher rent. Were the club dues all paid promptly, we would have sufficient funds to meet all claims, but such is not the case, and for June, July, and August, the club's revenue will be short of its expenses. [Discusses problems getting people to pay dues.] Sir R.W. Cameron and John Faton suggested that the most expedient course was to approach a few of our members "who could without inconvenience make an advance to the club to be repaid so soon as the club is able to do so," of 100 dollars each (looking for 12 members, for total of $1200). "If you can make one of the 12 or care to advance a smaller sum, kindly advise me at once. I feel certain that it will be repaid to you, and it will be of great assistance to the club at present and a relief to me personally."
