Title
[D8611J], Letter from American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Frederick Remsen Hutton to Thomas Alva Edison, December 17th, 1886
Editor's Notes
You were kind enough when approached by Mr. Wiley to consent to serve as one of the Local Committee of Arrangements for the NY Meeting just passed of this Society. ##You stated furthermore your willingness to render pecuniary assistance in arranging the details for the Entertainment of Members for that meeting, and this letter is to remind you of your promise and ask you to [honor] it. ##The unusal numbers in attendance and the social success of the recent meeting have left the Committee with a deficiency of about $100, which must be met by an assessment upon those willing to contribute. Will you therefore lighten the embarrassment and the labors of the Secretary by fowarding to Wiley or myself such contribution as your inclination may prompt you? Of course, the more we can assume, the less willl be the burden on those who have already contributed what they consider their share in a former subscription. I send this through the kind offices of Wiley, fearing that a recent and similar communication has failed to reach you through misdirection to the wrong one of the many "Oranges."
