- Editor's Notes
- [Valparaiso] I have just returned from a trip to the largest copper mine in the North, where I made contracts for a lot of electric work. Dynamos are wanted for the electro-deposition of copper to the amount of 2 tons daily. Will you advise me what you can do in the matter and prices subject to Grace & Co.'s contract. You may remember interviews which you had with J.C. Castro, engineer of this mine, on this subject. The subject is important in Chile and the works are now erected for this purpose, and if you cannot furnish the dynamos, the order must go elsewhere. ##I mention in this connection that Mr. Waters starts for the U.S. by next steamer on this same business (his EL scheme having failed), and that he also epxects to go to Europe. I therefore consider it important that you give me an early answer as to what can be done and we will order the dynamos and shut off all monopoly, as the party interested is the most powerful financial man and politician in Chile. ##Regarding Santiago, we are closely looking after that business and by papers signed today have secured a practical control. We shall therefore soon be able to go ahead and utilize your new discovery regarding cost of conductors, of which we are very glad to hear.
