Editor's Notes

We are acting as solicitors for the Oriental Co. and ask you in light of the arrangements between you and the company to execute an assignment of your various patent rights and inventions re: Australia to the co., subject to the 17 Jan. 1880 agreement with Western Electric; Oriental needs the assignment to assert its rights; your arrangement with the Oriental Co. was confirmed in your telegram and letter to Mr. Pender 16 Dec. 1882 and 13 May 1883 (copies enclosed); please "instruct your agents to give information on the various patents and inventions, which are yours either taken out in your own name or taken out by others on your behalf in Australia and New Zealand;" The co. would also like any documents or evidence showing that Welles and others acted as your agents in taking out patents in Australia on your behalf, "as apparently those gentlemen claim independent rights."
