"The only information I have to give with relation to the enclosed, is, that the note was so long delayed in coming to me, with reference to the claim of Mr. Stone, that I had issued notes and paid out cash on Mr. Edison's account, to an extent which absolutely precluded me from making a settlement with Mr. Stone. If I had got the information at an earlier date, the settlement would have been made and somebody else would have had to wait. Now Mr. Stone will have to wait until I can see my way a little clearer, which will probably be in the course of the next month."
