Title

[D8753AAD], Letter from William S Logue to Alfred Ord Tate, January 15th, 1887

Editor's Notes

"Yours of Jan 13th referring to the extra split magnet ordered for the C & GT circuit I would say that from the information I need on arrival I found that the were to be equipped was much longer than 60 miles on account of the numerous loops on it and I though and still think that it will be necessary to put one in near Port Huron. It seems impossible for me to find any one that can give me the exact number of offices and how they want the wire equipped. Mr. Fortune turned me over to a Mr Cheever the young gentleman who is supposed to take charge of the circuit when finished he says he has been here only about a month and knows absolutely nothing about the wire and has less about telegraph matters. He gave me a list of offices and on this information I ordered the two 2/2 condencers on the 13th. I went over the road yesterday distributing the material recd the same morning & on my arrival at Fort Gratiot the operator informed me that there was three offices that I has not heard of on my arrival in Detroit I called on Mr Cheever and informed him of my discovery he merely said he knew nothing of them he consulted Supt Atwater [indexed] and they mine reversed the list and according to the revision I have not got enough condensers I informed Mr Cheever that before ordering more material we had better wait Mr Fortunes return on Monday and have the matter settled definitely. In case I order more condensers you will understand the reason why the first order did not cover all I needed -- I will commense work tomorrow Monday and finish as soon as possible but on account of the small number of trains I will get laid out, in order to facilitate matters I propose to equip the two Detroit offices (WU. V Depot) at night. As soon as the matter is settled I will send you a diagram showing the wire and the offices to be phoned"
