- [Letterhead: Shafting Department of The Edison Machine Works] "I enclose you herewith letter from Manning, Maxwell & Moore from whom I bought the engine for Mr. Edison's laboratory. A short time ago, Mr. Gilliland sent me a blue print, showing in which direction the engine was to run. You will notice by the enclosed letter from C.H.
