Editor's Notes
"I did not see Clemens (Mark Twain) at his hotel, this P.M. but left a note for him, broaching the subject of the memoirs. When I hear something definite from him, I will let you know. Meanwhile I think you had better cameras [?] the idea a little with T.A.E. so as to get a basis ready + seems control of the work for ourselves. Indeed, I don't see very well who else could carry it out. You have the sources of information. I have the literary + editorial skill for utilizing them; + we could both [unclear] together as to the form + manner of presenting the subject. My name might be useful on the title page, as that of editor + compliler; but, beyond this, I have no desire to make myself manifest in the matter; + I should be quite willing to leave my name off the title page, if that were thought desirable. Address me, New London, Conn." Faithfully yours, G.P. Lanthrop
