- Title
- [D8818ADE], Letter from Alfred Ord Tate to Edison Machine Works, Samuel Insull, February 7th, 1888
- Editor's Notes
- In reference to South American business, and to your remark made personally to me yesterday to the effect that I had told Mr. Coster "that the Machine Works could handle the business better than the Light Company." I want it to be clear that I never made such an assertion to anyone and that I never mentioned the name of the Machine Works to Mr. Coster. Tate asserts that he told Hastings that the Machine Works could run the business better than the Light Company. Tate put matters in such shape that a "little diplomacy would have ensured success" in obtaining a concession from the Light Company. Tate believes that Hutchinson is attempting to "saddle me with the credit of your [Insull] failure."
