- Title
- [D8818ARG], Letter from Alfred Ord Tate to Thomas Alva Edison, August 11th, 1888
- Editor's Notes
- The Edison Phonograph Co. has been assessed twelve hundred dollars. The State law provides that, if a corporation organized thereunder engages in the manufacturing business it shall be exempt from taxation; otherwise it must pay tribute to the State. I enclose copy of an affidavit which it is necessary for me to execute in order to obtain a remission of the tax. I do not feel sufficiently sure of the facts set forth in this affidavit to execute the instrument, and I wish therefore that you would read it over and wire me whether or not I shall sign the same.
