- We received yesterday a cable from Gouraud stating that he thought you should come to England in regard to Mexico. He made a proposition, but it is one you could not accept, and I think it useless to try adjusting the matter by wire. TAE agrees. Gouraud states that he will give Connery preference over English investors, but you must arrange the details with him direct [sic.]. TAE is sorry he cannot personally arrange this matter for Connery or do anything to bring about the desired end. It has gone as far as his contracts with Gouraud permit, and, the best thing for you to do if you desire to secure the territory is to negotiate direct with Gouraud.
