I beg to confirm the understanding arrived at at the interview with McClement and you on Thursday, namely McClement goes ahead with examination of the books of the shops and the Edison Light Company with you as my representative, excepting from investigation Bergmann & Co. re this Company, as Bergmann refused to permit my representative to examine the books with McClement, I hereby protest against the same, and reserve the right to repudiate the whole or any part of McClement's report in the final negotiations with Villard. I sent a copy of this correspondence to McClement, with request to convey such part of it as refers to Bergmann & Co to them.
