- [D8831ACL], Letter from William Dennis Marks to Edward Hibberd Johnson, December 22nd, 1888
- Editor's Notes
- "I have looked at certificates and patents for mingling gas and air of the Rev. Gentelman and it would appear at first sight that he has taken a very round about way of doing a simple thing which however correct in principle will not prove commercially practicable and profitable and which could be very easily evaded under the patent law with exactly the same result. I have however said to him that if he will write to me I will give him a written reply and declined to express a verbal opinion. You shall know the result if I hear from him again. I am" Yours truly, Wm D. Marks [Johnson marginalias: "Edison On this I let the matter drop EHJ"]
