Title
[D8833ABW], Letter from Francis Robbins Upton to Alfred Ord Tate, August 28th, 1888
Editor's Notes
"We have seen Mr. Haarmann here, and told him, if he would furnish us pump we would give it a trial. He has at present no means of making such a pump, though he would like to come into our Factory to do so. If you could arrange to have him make the pump in the Laboratory, without his seeing the processes used there, I think it would be a good thing to let him do so. ### I believe as a matter of business principle such a matter should be investigated, as it has often in a number of cases, similar to this, resulted in good work. ### Mr. Haarmann has worked for the Ritrite-Alumnoid Co., and also worked for the Swan Co., in England. ### He has undoubtedly had experience in making pumps, and it is possible that his pump may have advantages over the one we are now using. I return his letter." Very truly yours, Francis R. Upton [Marginalia: "If we can make it here in Lab all right send him in-"]
