- Editor's Notes
- "I enclose Report of Auditor appointed by the Edison Spanish Colonial Light Company to report upon the accounts of its Treasurer. ### As it is essential that a sworn report of the debts of the Company &c., should be made and filed early in January, we shall have a metting of the Board of Trustees to pass upon the enclosed. Meantime I would be obliged if you would inform me at your early convenience, what actions you wish to be taken as to this report, and whether you wish any further, and if so, what information in the matter. ### By the agreement of subscription authorized by the resolution of July 13, 1882 (Copy below) Mr. Navarro was entitled to take $37,500 of the stock at par, (in addition to the $12,500 then taken up by him) up to April 1, 1883. This option does not appear to have been actually exercised by Mr. Navaroo on or before that date by any formal notice; but my impression is that the Company has, while you were one of the Trustees, treated the $37,500 of stock as having been taken under that option, and that Mr. Navarro's advances as Treasurer in making financial arrangements for the Company in Cuba were made on that understanding. If that is so it might be claimed that the $37,500 should be credited to the Company as of April 1, 1883, and so reduce the interest on advances to that extent. I will inquire into this matter and advise you. ### The indebtedness of the Company should be provided for in some way, and I would like to have your views as to the method of doing it. ### I expect Mr. Lowrey here early next week, and shall then attend to the issuing of Certificates of Stock to you, Mr. Navarro and Porter, Lowrey, Soren & Stone in conformity with the agreements. ### Please return to me the enclosed report of Mr. Niebuhr."
