[D8846ACI], Letter from Dyer and Seely to Alfred Ord Tate, November 14th, 1888

Editor's Notes

We have your letter of the 13th inst. enclosing one from the French Edison Company. The French patent on electric lamps referred to, is No. 174710 dated December 17th 1887 and it relates to the municipal lamp now used in this country in which a cut out is operated by the fusing of a third wire sealed in between the lamp wires. We enclose a copy of the specification which was forwarded to our agent in Paris Nov. 29-1887. Patents corresponding to this were applied for in England December 13th, 1887,in Germany December 17th, 1887 and in Belgium December 17th 1887. We applied for these patents in accordance with instructions from Mr. Upton and Mr. Edison and their cost we charged against the Edison Lamp Company. The cases were prepared within a few days before they were forwarded. The same invention is contained in an application for a United States Patent filed June 21/87, Case No. 724.##The patent for electric motors referred to, is on what Mr. Edison called his pyromagnetic motor. The French patent is No. 174196 dated and filed Nov.22, 1887. The papers were forwarded to Mr. Brandon November 4th 1887. A corresponding patent was applied for in England December 5th 1887. We enclose also a copy of the specification sent to Paris for this patent. These patents were charged against Mr. Edison personally.##We believe this covers all the points inquired about. Will you please return the copies when you are through with them?
