Title
[D8847ADQ], Letter from Francis Robbins Upton to Thomas Alva Edison, December 6th, 1888
Editor's Notes
"One of the Little Sisters of the Poor desires me to bring before you a use for the Phonograph. The Founder of the order of the Little Sisters of the Poor is now living in France. The order now has in it about 3,500 members, many of whom are in this country. ### The Sisters are very desirous to have the founder speak on the phonograph a message to them in this country. ### I think that this would give a great deal of pleasure to many and I hope that you will be able to spare one of the first phonographs made in the factory for this purpose, and to have the same sent to France to be spoken on and then returned to this country. ### I am willing to join in part of the expense of having this done, and think that it would be a graceful thing for you to take upon yourself part of the expense." Yours very truly, Francis R. Upton [Marginalia: "Ans 10/12/88"]
