Title
[D8848ADG], Letter from Parmly Olendorf and Fisk to Alfred Ord Tate, August 24th, 1888
Editor's Notes
"After reading your letter of Aug. 14 in reference to the state tax on the Edison Phonograph Company, we have drawn a new affidavit in which we have stated the facts as outlined in your letter. You will observe that the statements as to manufacture etc. refer to the period before the Company ceased to make the phonographs and granted the right to do so to others. We are not at all certain that we can have this tax removed on this affidavit, but we must stand by the facts. If the tax is removed this year it will be imposed next, but the Edison Phonograph Works can escape taxation. Will you kindly sign the enclosed affidavit and return at once together with the blank which we enclose to be filled out and signed by you. We also return the copy of agreement which you send us. ### If we can receive the papers by Monday we will be able to present the matter to the State Board at the meeting on Tuesday." Respectfully, Parmly Olendorf & Fisk [Marginalia: "Ans Aug 25/88"]
