Title

[D8848ADS], Letter from Jesse H Lippincott to Thomas Alva Edison, September 13th, 1888

Editor's Notes

"When I made the appointment with Mr. Tate to go out to see you today I expected to meet Mr. Painter at noon, as he left here on Tuesday to go to Washington and get the books and papers of the Edison Speaking Phonograph Co. I am just in receipt of the following telegram from him. "Am so far unable to find Secretary to get books he is expected back here Saturday." signed U.H. Painter. As I wanted to see him before calling on you I will wait until he comes, although if you are not engaged on Sunday I would like to go out and see you on that day to talk ove rthe situation. ### This morning I received the following cable from Gilliland. "Edison acting hastily probably under misapprehension facts. My action legally and as agent and friend was perfectly right. And I demand strict fulfillment of contract shall return at once." ### To this I made no reply. ### Please send me a line tomorrow or have your office telephone me as regards Sunday." TAE marginalia: "O.K. E."]
