"I write to ask if your new Phonographs are ready for use and if you could send me one per return mail. ### I am particularly anxious to give one as a surprise to my husband, Mr. Joseph W. Swan (whose name I am sure is familiar to you.) ### He is going to have a gathering of his scientific friends here the end of this month, and it would be delightful to have one of your new Phonographs to show them among other new and interesting things. ### I should very much like you and Mr. Swan to meet and hope you will visit us when you come to England." Believe me, yours very sincerely, Hammah Swan [Marginalia: "Ans June 16/88" "Write and say am very sorry to disappoint but Col Gouraud comes over specially for phonogram and returns to England tomorrow to give an Exhibition it is really the only perfect one yet turned out of factory and not others can be got out until 4 weeks hence. ### I hope to have the pleasure of seeing your husband when I visit England to [unclear]"]
