- "I have your letter of the 3rd inst. I am not surpised to learn this sample should be unaccountable as to finish and quanity as it was sent without the [unclear] knowledge or resample of what you must have-I believe that you can meet your requirements as negative quality-finish and [unclear]. And I would ask you, when returning the balance of their sample, you kindly favor now by sending a small sample of both Johnsons + Matthey and the German (Paulson) which shall show thickness with and quantity and finish and accompany at with your exact specification. I will forward all + believe the next sample will send you . How was its malliability? [rest is unclear]" Yours, respy, Emerson Foote [TAE marg: "John Ott Cut 6 sqr inches of the 00-4 nickel also some of that smooth nickel we get from Joseph [O'harlon?] & one pure sheet & several with Iron coated on the nickel on one side only---only cut sample of pure nickel]
