- [D8905ABZ1], Letter from Frazar & Co, Everett Frazar to U.S. State Dept. Secretary, James Gillespie Blaine, March 8th, 1889
- Editor's Notes
- Summary: Tate forwarded this to Edison. Frazar meant to see Blaine when in Washington last week but demurred because of a crush of guests seeing Blaine and the President. He informs Blaine of the firms he runs in Japan and China, as well as the general consul in Korea, which represent some of the most powerful manufacturing concerns in the US, including Edison Electric and Phonograph Companies, Baldwin locomotive Sprague Electric railway, etc. Has employed four electrical and railway experts at considerable expense to introduce these American manufactures into Japan which no other firm does with the same expense or attention as his own. But recently he has faced aggressive competition from the Germans and the Belgians and the English.##He hopes that as ex Gov. Hubbard resigns as minister to Japan, he will be replaced by someone from the "an eastern or middle manufacturing and progressive section." He has spoken with other manufacturers in Philadelphia who share his concerns and would like to meet with Blaine the following week to more fully express their views.##He adds that he is a good Republican, he is glad to see Blaine take charge of this most valuable department of government.
