- "Some time ago I made application, through my father, to enter the laboratory of Mr. Edison and we soon thereafter advised by yourself to enter the “phonograph work” and await ([-]) which I accordingly did, soon afterward, and have daily ([-]) employed theresince. I have endeavored to advance myself rapidly; but in an interview with Mr. English, to say, I could gain as encouragement which would ([-]) my ([-]) remaining there. If I can obtain an interview, in ([-]), with you of course early date you will oblige"
