Title

[D8915ABI], Letter from Marietta Edison to Thomas Alva Edison, December 13th, 1889

Editor's Notes

I do not know how to commence this letter. But how goes. I am a married woman now. And my husband is a brakeman of the C&S [---] [---] Railway. He is on the spare bid now and does not make good wages so we are in a pickle as to how we are going to get along. We are in debt for the things we have got and can barely live let alone pay for the things we have bought, and we owe a hundred dollars. Husband being only in the spare list he does not get good wages but he will have a regular car in month or two when he can get along. He is liked by the conductors on whose car he has been, all speak highly of him as a brakeman. He is also an operator. He works in the Western union here and in the C&S [---] [---] office nights when not doing anything else. He was saying this morning that unless he had one hundred dollars he would lose his job and we would have to break up and he would have to hunt work elsewhere. Let me have that one hundred dollars for one year I will pay it back to you out of the money he give us and what he makes he comes right to me with. It is little and therefore covers little ground and the men we owe are becoming impatient. Please let me have the money for Gods sake and I will send it all back when I can by sending some every month, I can have it all paid in a short time. # Let me know as quick as you can and I will hold him here by some means. Of course he knows nothing of this for I mentioned it to him some time [---] and he refused to let me write. # Please send it as soon as it is possible for you. [written upside down at top is the following:] If you send the money please send it in that [---]. Father is expecting to leave for NY next week.
