Title
[D8930ABE], Letter from Samuel Insull to Charles Batchelor, August 8th, 1889
Editor's Notes
[from Schenectady] I arranged with Mr. Lippincott before I left town for an order of 45 Phonographs per day from the 1st. Of August. This order is given subject to our being able to supply batteries as the North American Company may call upon us. Please understand no order whatever was given for the batteries, and the North American Company will not give us an opportunity and the North American Company will not give us an order for any quantity . I think, however, if we had from 150 to 200 batteries on hand that we would be in a condition to take care of their order as fast as they came along. I gave Mr. Lippencott my assurance that we would go ahead putting some batteries on stock immediately. ## The telephone is not working very well this morning so that I cannot get you by wire. I leave here this afternoon for a four days driving trip, and shall be at Niagra Falls on Tuesday and Wendesday next to attend the Edison convention there. I will see you on this subject again as soon as I return home. I have written fully to English on the matter of the Phonograph order. The order extends to the 1st. Of January next, and as near as I can figure it out is between $350,000 and $400,000.
