[D8941ABA], Letter from Willis N Stewart to Thomas Alva Edison, September 13th, 1889

Editor's Notes

Paris Sept 13 1889####Mr. T.A. Edison, Berlin.####Dear Sir:####I arrived here with morning after a fast trip per “City of Paris,” hoping to find your Mr. Insull con=sidered it best for me to come over at once & assisted me so to do. A Co. is being formed in London for the West Coast of SA & prompt action can secure it as an Edison Co. I have letters, &c. for London, and important sheet lighting contracts are open. The N.Y Directory could not keep me because the Co is incorporated solely for North America, but Mr. Herrick will help me in every way. All I need from you is a letter of introduction to some of your London friends & that you become consulting electrician of the Co. I should prefer to see you here if you return & if not at any other point which you may in=dicate by telegraph to me here at your office in the Exhibition. Mr. Bylesbee & four more Westinghouse men came over on London business on “City of Paris: I shall need to ask you for 100 or 200 if I have to wait here as I find Paris pretty dear. The capital proposed in England is £ 250.000 & Mr. Herrick promises me prices low enough to compete with English houses. Waiting your answer. I am####Yours ----####W.W. Stewart####[name mentions: Sam Insull, Mr. Bylesbee, Westinghouse, Thos Edison, Jacob Herrick]
