- "Your favor of 22nd inst received with Simmons & Evans statement for division. I kept no separate a/c till Jan 1st 1889 under the supposition that the goods procured were for the mutual benefit of Messrs Edison & Gilliland. I have send bill charging Mr. G with 25.15 as his third statement to Dec 1888. Since then everything is separate as Mr. Edison requested and I will keep it so and endeavor to pay cash for such incidentals as I may need keeping everything separate as far as it is possible to do while looking after both places."
