- Editor's Notes
- [Letterhead of Portland & Willamette Valley Railway Co.] About a year ago you said I could handle this territory through your Gen. Agent McLaughlin; After sale to North American Co., your Gen. Agent Gilliland said the NA co. would carry out your arrangements, that I should correspond with Sabin at San Francisco, as he would carry out arrangements, and I would have the Oregon and possibly Washington territories; McLaughlin and Sabin assured me the same thing###Sabin has now arranged for J.H. Thatcher; W.B. King; and A.R. Strong of this city to organize, which they did, leaving me and my friends "in the lurch" after spending nine months working up capital###Sabin wrote Jan. 23 that Thatcher would leave San Fran for Portland and I would be fully advised about the organization and was to assist in it; places me in awkward shape with my friends; is this the correct thing, am I to be left entirely out? [New name mentions: J.H. Thatcher, W.B. King, A.R. [?] Strong].
