- Editor's Notes
- Hope the cable from St. Petersburg announcing the "grand success" at Gatchina reached you on the 11th or 12th inst. "The Czar was naturally greatly astonished, pleased, excited, charmed; in short his mind underwent a change as any mind of an intelligent being must in listening to your great wonder."###Czar wanted to know whether and when he could have a phonograph; had to tell him I didn't know; this answer didn't leave a good impression because the Czar knows many ([--------]), scientists & Bismarck were presented with phonographs; since the Czar is very interested in the phono, couldn't you put him in the same category as these others. If this is inconvenient let me know how I can get one to give him.###With the beginning of publicity in Russia, I get questions on prices, etc from all sides, but can only say I don't know. Can you put me on the right track to find out what your people (European Co.) intend to do about Russia since I never received a satisfactory letter from Gouraud
