Title

[D8960AAH], Letter from Everett Frazar to China. Minister, February 6th, 1889

Editor's Notes

“I have the honor to inform you that my firms, Frazar & Co., in China and Japan have been appointed by Mr. Thomas A. Edison his special agents in those countries and Korea for the introduction of his Perfected Phonograph. We are about sending an expert to China with several new instruments and shall have occasion to bring same to the attention of the different departments of the Chinese Government. It is the desire of both Mr. Edison and myself that you should have an opportunity of hearing and testing this new speaking machine, which I feel confident you will agree with me in the latest and most marvelous of Mr. Edison’s inventions. This afternoon Mr. Edison is sending a gentleman, Mr. Miller, to Washington for the purpose of giving an exhibition before the Commissioners of the Patent Office. I shall take the liberty of handing Mr. Miller a letter of introduction to Your Excellency and shall feel greatly obliged if you will grant him an interview with the Phonograph. I shall also be glad if you will speak to a few of your personal friends in the various departments of the Government at Peking upon the Phonograph, and Dr. Miller still take with him the recording cylinders for use in Peking upon an instrument [---] by me with our export; and/or friends will have the pleasure of sharing your own voice, as though you were personally present. These might serve as introductories to our expert when showing the Phonograph, and you will do me a favor by advising the Government that a full supply of the original Edison Perfected Phonograph will be sent to the country very shortly, the extensive Edison laboratory being not in full operation and turning out about to complete talking [---] per day.### I hope to be in Washington in a few weeks and shall do myself the honor of calling upon you. Thanking you in advance for your kindness and attention to Mr. Miller,"
