Title

[D8964ABZ], Letter from Alfred Ord Tate to Thomas Alva Edison, June 29th, 1889

Editor's Notes

Orange, NJ June 29, 1889 Mr. Edison,- Here is another letter from Dick. From all that we can learn from Dick's correspondence, it seems that the great distributing centre for dolls in Europe, is Paris. The Boston Company had a contract with T.C. Crawford, covering France, a copy of which is in Major Eaton's hands. Mr. Stevens states in his letter to me, under date June 27th, 89: "It is a question if Crawford's contract is binding." F. Z. Maquire came to the Laboratory the other day, and told me that he was associated with Crawford in the matter of this contract, and that the agreement had lapsed, and he wanted to obtain from me information in regard to your relations with the Toy Phono. Co., so as to enable himself and Crawford to decide whether they would seek a renewal of their contract. If there are any grounds whatever upon which the Crawford contract can be abrogated, it is very important that the Boston Company shaould take advantage of them. Otherwise Crawford is going to control the bulk of the European trade. I have to-night written Mr. Stevens regarding the interview I had with Maguire, and as you are to see that gentleman on Mr. Edison. Monday, July 8th, I have arranged to have this note presented to you on that day, so you can bring this question up for discussion and impress upon the Boston people the necessity of getting rid of Crawford. Yours truly, A.O. Tate
