Ans'd July 15th 1892
Thomas A. Edison, Esq.,
Dear Sir:
Referring to the Annual Bill of the American Surety Company against you as Administrator of Mary A. Edison, and to my letter to you of the 8th ult as well as to Mr. Tate's reply to me of the 10th ult., I beg to submit the following:
(1) Enclosed please find receipt of said Company dated June 25th, 1892 for $150 premium for one year form February 17, 1892,to February 17, 1893. This bill was paid with your cheque which came to me in Mr. Tate's letter of the 10th ult.
(2) Mr. Tate writes that you would like to have the premium of the bond reduced if possible. We have tried to do it, but the Surety Company refuses. They say that their possible legal liability is as great as ever, but that if you wish to apply to the Surrogate to have the bond reduced, they will not oppose. Under the acts in the case, we could probably get the amount of the bond reduced by formal legal proceedings before the Surrogate. Shall I try it, or let matters stay as they are? If we succeeded, your bond might be reduced from $150 to $100, or even less, a year. Is such a small reduction worth going into Court for?
Awaiting your instructions, I remain,
Very truly yours,
S.B. Eaton
