July 28, 1892 Mr. J.M. Longyear, Marquette, Michigan Dear Sir:- With reference to your letter of 9th instant to Mr. Edison, the latter has a process for the treatment of magnetic iron ores, which is in successful operation at Ogden, N.J., where a very large plant has been erected. The Company controlling the patents manufactures the apparatus for its own use only and not for sale to the public. Its policy thus far has been to purchase mineral properties containing ore of the required character and n quantities sufficient to render the working of it profitable. I understand that a Company has been formed which will commence operations in your State some time in the future. Yours truly, A.O. Tate Private Secretary
