Oct. 24, 1892.
Prof. John P. Barrett,
Chicago, Illinois.
My dear Professor,-
I desire to introduce to you Mr. T. R. Lombard General Manager of the North American Phonograph Company, and a personal friend of Mr. Edison and myself. Since you were here I have had a long talk with Mr. Edison and myself. Since you were here I have had a long talk with Mr. Edison in regard to his exhibit, and his views were embodied in a telegram to Director-General Davis, of which you have no doubt been apprised. It would cost Mr. Edison from sixty to seventy-five thousand dollars to undertake to make such an exhibit as sent to Paris. This is more money than he personally can afford to spend. It is, however, his intention to make a historic exhibit in the space allotted to the General Electric Company, in addition to which I am gathering to gather as many of his inventions as are available to exhibit in the space applied for by Mr. Lombard in conjunction with the exhibition of the Phonograph and Kinetograph, which will, of course, be a centre of attraction. I am satisfied that we will have an excellent display, and in this connection Mr. Edison is represented by Mr. Lombard, whom I wish to commend to your kind consideration. I expect to be in Chicago before a great while and will do myself of the pleasure of calling on you.
Yours truly,
Private Secretary.
