Oct. 30, 1892. Mr. Edison,- Mr. Cheever sent a messenger to me last night to tell me that the New York Phonograph Company had called a meeting of its Directors on Monday for the purpose of providing money for the Treasury, and to ask if there was anything I wanted to say to him about it. I had a great deal about it. I sent work to Cheever that he must under no circumstances permit the Board to supply any money for the treasury. I told him he should insist upon through investigation of the present management and show the Directors just how the Company stands. It has been my belief all along that these men were not aware of the precarious position in which the Haines management had placed this Company, and I am more than ever convinced that this is so from the fact they have not had a meeting of the Directors for nearly a year, and that at the last meeting a substantial surplus was reported. There will be lively times on Monday I expect. A. O. Tate. M.
