[Letterhead of Edison Manufacturing Company]
January 13th, 1892
Dear Sir:
We have recently effected a most important alteration in all the type of the Edison Lalande batteries, which very greatly increases their efficiency.
This improvement consists of a hard rubber yoke, to the middle of which is attached the binding-post for zinc plates. The extensions of the yoke fit into the grooved sides of frame and are firmly bolted to them. This prevents any movement in the relative positions of the elements and does away with the necessity of using [Magnetite?] buttons below solution to, prevent any internal short-circuiting occurring.
While the effect of this change has been to increase the cost of the cells and necessitates a revision of our discounts, we are pleased to say that through an arrangement recently entered into with the Edison General Electric Company, we are able to effect the [illegible] disadvantage which this change involves.
We append a list of the Supply stores of the Edison General Electric Company, and beg to advise you that in the near future, of [which?] you will receive definite advise later on, full supplies of our goods will be carried at each of those depots, from the nearest of which your orders can be filled. Meanwhile please address your orders to us as heretofore. This will effect a large saving in freight and express charges and will also enable you to obtain supplies much more promptly than if ordered from us direct.
The best jobbers discounts which we can at present allow on our [various?] batteries are shown on the annexed discount sheet.
The Edison General Electric Company will allow the same discount to all our Supply House customers on goods delivered from their supply depots, and have been duly advised of the names of those with whom we are doing business. It will be observed that the change in our discounts relates only to cells other than those manufactured for Electro Medical purposes.
We confidently believe that our increasing business will enable us in the near future, to make better terms than we are able to record at this time, and we wish to assure our friends in the trade that we will take advantage of every facility tending to this and, both in processes of manufacture and otherwise.
We thank you very cordially for the support which you have given us in the past and trust that the pleasant relations, which have been established between us, may be continued.
Yours truly,
Edison Manufacturing Company. [Letterhead of Edison Manufacturing Company]
