Dear Mr. Edison:
It appears from the annexed letter that no Canadian patents for Edison inventions relating to electric lighting have been applied for since 1863. Did you know it?
Under your laboratory Contract with the General Co., October 1, 1890, you bound yourself to apply for patents on your inventions at the expense of the General Co., “in the United States of American and in such other countries of North and South America as the General Co. may from time to time require”.
In order to avoid blame hereafter, I propose to ask the {Ratestilitigation?} Committee to give definite instructions on the above matters. Have you any suggestions to make in connection with that proposed action on my part?
Very truly yours,
[Signed: Eaton, Sherburne Blake]
