Letterhead of Eaton & Lewis New York July 14, 1892 General Electric Company, S.D. Greene, Esq., Assistant General Manager. Dear Sir: Re Edison Patents in West Indies. Replying to your question, there is no information in this country full enough to enable us to say just what the present status of these Spanish patents is. So far as the West Indies is concerned, they belong to the Edison Spanish Colonial Company, of which Mr. Arango is now the General Manager. That Company has not kept track of its patent rights in the West Indies very closely although they have recently obtained from Madrid a list of Edison Spanish Patents, sixty one in number, but of which only thirteen are still in force, the remainder having either lapsed or been cancelled. Among those in force is the Filament Patent. We find another list of Spanish Patents in the office of Dyer & Seely, showing forty-three patents. You see there is a difference of eighteen patents between the above two lists. Possibly they are for inventions other than electric light, heat and power. The only way we can determine this is to write to Madrid. If you think it worth while, why not let me send to Madrid and get a full list of the Edison Patents with detailed information as to each. Then I can give you a reliable report as to the present status of the Edison patents in the West Indies I enclose, however, a list of patents checked off from the above two lists, which is probably reliable. Awaiting your further instructions, I remain, Very truly yours, (Signed) SB Eaton [List of Spanish Patents] [List of Spanish Patents]
