T.A.E Marginalia: 6 unipolar 20 E- D- machines Get from Perry amount [ 1 legible word] – E John Birkinbine, Philadelphia, April 18th, 182. Mr. A. O. Tate., Edison Laboratory, Orange, N.J. Dear Sir: I have been expecting from week to week to get an opportunity to drop in for a call on Mr. Edison , as there are several matters which I wish to [1 legible word] him about, and perhaps you can answer some of the inquiries which I would submit to him. First, I desire to prepare a statement as to the condition of Iron Ore centration, and for this purpose would like to know how many of the Edison Unipolar and how many of the Edison Dickson machines are in use, as well as the location of these machines, and the work to accomplish which they are put in. Second, I want for the U.S. Geological Survey, the quantity of concentrated Iron Ore produced at the Ogden mine ^ *during the year 1891* or at any other point where the machines are in operation. The figures will not be made public but will be used to make up totals of concentrate produced, and the quantity of merchantable Iron Ore obtained from different states. For this purpose I enclose you a card and return envelope, which requires no postage. I have never yet visited that Ogden mine, and I have been waiting for the invitation which Mr. Edison said he was going to give me, when he was ready to have me do so. Your Truly, [Signed: John Birkinbine] Marginalia: By [1 legible word] mail I have written Mr. Edison on a personal [1 legible word] matter. Wrote Mr. Perry for required information. April 26/92.
