530 Linden St. Camden N.J. Aug 27 1892 Thomas A. Edison Esq Orange N.J. Dear Sir Genl Grubb having secured the Sherman Mine at Sparta N.J. we are now ready to make thorough investigation of cost of plant for magnetic separation of the ore. Our idea is to erect a plant at first, as small as is consistent with economy; but so arranged that the capacity can be doubled or tripled! Starting say with a crushing and separating capacity of 100 tons of rock in 10 hours; arranged to increase when desired 300 tons rock per ten hours. The boiler and origins to be erected with that object in view; the dynamo in the first instance to come from the main engine shaft and to have capacity for punishing a reasonable in automatically operated trains. You will please give me plans and estimates for engine and boiler for 300 tons capacity in 10 hours. Dynamo and connections for 100 tons capacity in 10 hours and cost of each lamp. Kiln for drying 300 tons in 10 hours. Plans and measurements for house for 100 tons but so arranged that additions can be made for triple increase. With plans give specifications of quality size of all parts. Yours truly, Samuel Hufty
