Title
[LB006594], Letter from Thomas Alva Edison to Henry Augustus Rowland, November 24th, 1880
Editor's Notes
I send you herewith a little item which shows the true scientific spirit. The statements in it are generally absolutely false. Maxim is using my lamp coating carbon by the decomposition of hyrdo carbon was tried in every conceivable form of manner by me last January. There is not the slightest difficulty in getting 5 or 6 candles from a lamp if the carbon loop is coated with a sufficient thickness of deposited carbon but this reduces the resistance enormously. The whole subject was elaborately investigated by Becqurel many years ago and is to be found in an extensive paper in the Anneles de Chemie & physique. All the papers for your dynamo Machine are prepared and I have drawn up a contract between us which willbe submitted to you. The frim of Dyer & Wilber have the matter in charge. Mr Dyer has hunted up the precdents, canvassed the probabilities & believes he can get the patent allowed. I still have the cooperation of the Western Union Telegph Co in hte matter.
