Title

[LB008189], Letter from Thomas Alva Edison to Southwark Foundry and Machine Co, William H Merrick, April 19th, 1881

Editor's Notes

Your letter of March 31st in which you state the conditions upon which we can obtain engines from your Company came duly to hand but I delayed replying to it until I could ascertain what could be done in regard to the same. I now by leave to state that the Edison Electric Light Company looks to me for the steam Dynamos and I have myself taken large works to provide the Company with the same upon a plan which I explained to you, and as it is in my opinion entirely hopeless to endeavour to obtain machines upon any other system I can not avail myself of your facilities for [faring] engines upon the conditions which you set forth on your letter.##You will remember that I gave you an order for a 350 revolution Engine. I of course will take that I very much desire to have it in six or seven weeks as I want to combine it with one of my Dynamos and exhibit it at the coming International Exhibition of Electricity at Paris##Please state if it is possible to get it done within this time if not how soon will you be able to do so
