Title

[LB016418], Letter from Samuel Insull to William D Rich, May 22nd, 1883

Editor's Notes

Your favor of the 21st inst. came to hand this morning [--] Mr Story. I enclose you herewith new drawings for the station at Sunbury - we have lengthened the building and have dispensed with the meter room and propose using the office both for office and meter room. Instead of putting in two separate boilers Mr Edison thinks that a fifty horsepower double furnace boiler will be quite sufficient He also considers it quite unnecessary to put two engines in and will adhere to his original idea of installing one 9 1/2 x 12 Engine. He does not think your method of disposing of the exhaust a desirable one and proposes to use a muffler.##Will you please let me know as near as you can what extra cost there will be, if any, by altering the size of the building in consequence of your being compelled to raise foundation I will send you detailed plan showing steam pipe and connections by tomorrows mail; there is not time for it to be drawn before mail closes tonight.##We think the enclosed plan is a great improvement on the old one as it leaves a way to take coal into the back of the building and thus avoids passing through the Engine room which would be very undesirable, owing to the dust.
