Title

[LB022169], Letter from Ezra Torrance Gilliland to Eli Thompson, June 5th, 1886

Editor's Notes

[Florida household] I have just received yours of the 28th I am greatly disappointed to find the pay roll keeping up as [larger?]. I have just telegraphed you to lay off all hands except the painters and a small force to work the Garden & Landscape--and let all other work go over till fall. ## I should say two men besides the Engineer Nick will be sufficient. I understand from Keller the Engineer agreed to work on the place when not running the launch. Nick will of course be needed to look after the launch when not in use, same as when in use. That will give the Engineer all his time on the place when the launch is laid up. In selecting your men take the boot, ["Take the boot" underlined] and let me know in your next who they are, and how you have organized, and if there is any reason why this plan cannot be carried out. We can build [casters?], complete laboratory, finish houses this fall, in time for our occupancy--any carpenter work needed can be done much better there when machinery is running than it can now. Write us at least once a week and keep me posted.
