[LB024089], Letter from Alfred Ord Tate to Samuel Insull, March 4th, 1887
Editor's Notes
I have your telegram stating you will not sell Bergmann that stock execpt under advice of Mr. Coster. ## When I saw Coster yesterday he was very short in his remarks and seemed annoyed. ## I think the reason is that Bergmann has fun hawking the market trying to sell the stock you offered him at an advance over the price which he thought he could force you to accept owing to the position in which he considered you were placed. ## As your policy is to keep on friendly terms with Drexel Morgan I do not hink it would be consistent for you to negotiate sales with anyone who will rush in and bear the market the way Bergmann does. It has a bad moral effect and any temporary advantages which may accrue to you by reason of such suale will be more than conteracted by the ultimate result. ## I tell you this because I think it states the case exactly and if you sell any of that Illuminating stock yourself you should consider the object of the purchased in the interests of your relations with Drexel, Morgan and Co.
