- [LB026315], Letter from Thomas Alva Edison to Edison Electric Light Co of Philadelphia, William Dennis Marks, September 10th, 1888
- Editor's Notes
- "I have received your letter 4th inst. In regard to ampere meters which you desire the machine works to make and the drawings forwarded to me have also come to hand. ### I regret that I cannot assist you in this matter. A peculiar relation exists between the shops growing out of a long standing friendship, and a custom has arisen which forbids one from undertaking work recognized as belonging to another. ### You can well understand that the breaking of this rule might lead to complications of an unpleasant, if not serious nature, and I am therefore powerless to grant your request."
